Thursday, November 11th, was a tragic day as the world said goodbye to the beloved 'Dolphin Tale' inspiration Winter who passed at approximately 8 p.m.
Winter is a bottlenose dolphin who came to Clearwater Marine Aquarium after she was found entangled in a crab trap. As a result, Winter lost her tale. Soon after she was given a prosthetic replacement, and taught to swim with it.
The loving dolphin starred in the 2011 and 2014 Dolphin Tale films.
On November 1st Winter began not eating her food and was later determined to have sustained a gastrointestinal infection, after 10 days of 24/7 care and treatments the CMA labeled Winter critical on November 10th. The aquarium will be closed on Friday the 12th for the staff and the world to mourn. Grief counselors are being provided.
