The in-person ceremony took place on the beach in Santa Monica and was hosted by Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman. The ceremony typically is held the Saturday before the Oscars but in 2021 went virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, in 2021, it aired three days before the Oscars. This year, it aired three weeks before the Oscars and just as the final round of Oscar voting begins.
