~ The "Hits" and "Misses" from the 2021 Met Gala

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala held in New York to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. A typical table at the Gala is $275,000 in addition to a ticket which costs $30,000-$35,000. The Met began in 1948 with $50 tickets only to become the Oscar equivalent of the fashion industry as the years progressed.

Typically held the first Monday of May, this year’s Met was moved to September 13th due to the ongoing pandemic, and like years past this year was given a theme. The theme for this year’s Met was “America: A Lexicon of Fashion” This theme was chosen to express the exhibits’ ever evolving diverse range in regard to the country’s notions towards identity.

A controversial requirement amongst a few celebrities, including Nicki Minaj, was the vaccine mandate for this year’s Met. Masks were also required.

The looks this year took the internet by storm with everyone wondering “Why can no one follow a theme?”

Debby Harry took to the Met wearing Zac Posen in arguable one of the only theme inspired looks of the night. Debby’s look features a jean jacket, and a cage crinoline skirt with red and white tool with in it referencing the 13 strips on the flag. (She is pictured with Zac Posen)
