Meadow Walker and Louis Thornton-Allan are married, and the whole world felt the love. Many of us remember Meadow's father, the late Paul Walker who passed November 30th, 2013 from a car accident. Paul was a beloved actor of the Fast and Furious franchise and his co-star (Meadow's Godfather), Vin Diesel, stood in for Paul in walking Meadow down the aisle Friday, October 22.
I remember the day I woke up and my dad told me to come downstairs and look at what was on the news. We weren’t a big news watching family so I found this a little weird, but I walked downstairs to find my whole family scrolling through twitter, instagram, and watching the news as we saw Paul Walker’s car erupt in smoke, and his body being confirmed to be his. I was only 10 years old at the time, but I will never forget that feeling in my stomach, the feeling that we had just lost a good one, far too soon. I grew up watching Paul Walker, I grew up idolizing him, not only for his acting but for the heart he had off screen.
For those unfamiliar, Paul Walker and driver Roger Rodas passed away tragically when their Porsche (estimated to be driving between 80 and 93 MPH) hit a light pole, several trees, and erupted into flames. Paul Walker and Roger Rodas were racing team partners, and both died in the accident. The whole world felt that loss.
Meadow and Louis tied the knot in the Dominican Republic with a close knit group of family and friends due to the continuous COVID-19 travel restrictions. Amongst those guests were Paul's costars Vin Diesel and Jordana Brewster.
Jordana is widely known for playing Paul's love interest in the Fast and Furious Franchise as Mia Toretto. Through the 6.5 films created prior to Paul's passing the pair created quite the bond. Brewster referred to Paul as being "irreplaceable." Meadow, 22, was born in 1998, three years before the first movie was released to the public. Her birth mom, Rebecca Soteros, never married Paul Walker. In a way it was Jordana who took that role while Meadow was growing up on set.
Similarly, Meadow is the Goddaughter of Vin Diesel. It comes as no shock to Fast and Furious fans that Paul and Vin became very close during the filming of their hit film series, so it makes sense that Vin would be given the The Godfather title of Paul's only child. The Brian O'Connor and Dominic Toretto friendship is one driven by family, and loyalty, it was very clear that that friendship carried from the big screen to real life. When Paul passed away in 2013 Vin Diesel made a promise to take care of Paul's child and now, nearly 8 years later, he has walked her down the aisle.
Paul Walker, born September 12th, 1973 would have turned 48 this year on November 30th. Following his passing, Meadow started The Paul Walker Foundation. She plans on "helping ocean leaders of tomorrow become beacons in the fight to protect our oceans, wildlife, and ourselves." Paul held this light for the ocean, and everything that pertained to it, he even studied marine biology prior to acting, and spent much of his free time engaging with all there is to learn about the ocean that surrounds us. The symbol of The Paul Walker Foundation is The Nautilus, "It has both scientific and symbolic meaning as blueprint[s] for life itself and its infinite nature inherently[,] to always move forward and never back."
As we go into November and reflect on the life the world lost far too soon, we should all consider reflecting on Paul's work and his goals for a better world, and a better future. The Paul Walker Foundation is partnering with ‘Pencils of Promise’ in building a school. Meadow Walker will be dedicating this school to her late father - Paul Walker. Pencils of Promise works to improve education for children in Laos, Ghana, and Guatemala. I believe that this school is exactly what Paul would have wanted, and I believe that if we work together we can make it happen.
